Come and join us!
Bowls is quite an easy game to learn and relatively inexpensive compared to most outdoor sports. New members are always welcome, both male and female, and you can be assured of a warm reception. So, if you fancy playing bowls our members would be only too pleased to help and offer advice.
Training, footwear and bowls are provided free while you learn. The club offers a comprehensive induction program to get you playing and enjoying the game of bowls very quickly. It covers all the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to get you started and on the green bowling. Here is a chance to be active, have fun, make friends and stay healthy. So, if you are interested in playing bowls, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Club Secretary and come along to one of our many free taster sessions.
About Us
Ponteland Bowling Club is a small, friendly and welcoming club based in the centre of Ponteland with easy access to parking. Founded in 1923 it is owned by the members and overseen by a committee which is elected annually. The clubhouse was built in 2003 and extended in 2009 providing excellent facilities for both members and visitors. The bowling green is maintained to a very high standard and is considered to be one of the best in Northumberland.
The club is affiliated to Bowls England and to Bowls Northumberland and all members have the opportunity to fully participate in Bowls Northumberland activities and other local leagues and divisions. The elected members of the club committee are committed to ensuring the club provides activities and bowling opportunities that are relevant to the members’ needs and that members are provided with the training and bowling opportunities that they require.
Our Passion
We are passionate about promoting the game of bowls and offer opportunities for all members of differing ability levels, including beginners. There are numerous opportunities to get involved and have fun, either casually or in the numerous competitions.
Membership Benefits
Whilst the club has a number of experienced players it also has members who enjoy the game for all its sociable aspects such as camaraderie and team work. In addition, all members enjoy health benefits bowling offers, in terms of general fitness and mental wellbeing.
County and National Competition
Club members have the opportunity take part in a number of high-level competitions and leagues organised at county level. They also have the opportunity to enter county and national competitions. Equally there are local leagues and friendlies with other clubs in the Northeast, which promote a friendly rivalry between clubs.
Internal Club Competitions and Casual Play
The Club runs many internal club competitions throughout the season which are well contested by members of all levels. In addition, we run weekly casual mixed games, which are very popular. Many members also play regularly in small groups, meeting up once or twice a week – just book a rink and arrange with your friends to have a game.
Social Events
The club runs a number of social events throughout the year, including coffee mornings, club dinners, Dotty Dominoes, games sessions, pie and peas supper, BBQs and many more. Most members also meet up weekly in organised roll ups, to play casually indoors, during the winter months at a local indoor bowling venue. Some members also choose to participate in indoor competitions and league games over the winter months. We will ensure all new members are given information and support to help them access indoor bowling with other members if they wish.
